What is a Case Study?

A case study is a written or recorded, in-depth analysis of a particular client’s experience with your product/service. They provide detailed information on how your offering has helped a specific client overcome their particular business challenge. Case studies are valuable because they provide prospects with detailed information on past successes, which can help build confidence in your brand and increase the likelihood of making a purchase.

We can deliver case studies in various formats, such as slide decks, infographics, blog posts, or even short video clips. No matter the structure, case studies should always be well-written and visually appealing to hold the reader’s attention. That's where our team of expert case study writers comes in! We bring your story to life by crafting engaging, conversion-focused case studies that capture your unique value proposition.

What is a Client Success Story?

A client success story is similar to a case study but with a few key differences. They are shorter in length, and instead of focusing on the business challenge, they focus on how your product/service has helped the client achieve their desired outcome. Client success stories are valuable because they provide a quick and easy way for prospects to understand how your product/service can help them achieve their goals.

J&S Digital has extensive experience writing both case studies and client success stories. We understand how to craft a compelling story that will capture your reader’s attention and help increase conversions. Contact us today to learn more about our services and get started on your project!

How can my local San Diego business benefit from a case study or client success story?

If you’re a local business in San Diego or anywhere else in the country, a case study or client success story can be a great way to:

  • Win new business by telling a potential customer about a past project you’ve completed similar to what they need.

  • Help your local and general search engine optimization (SEO) by including relevant keywords on your website.

  • Establish thought leadership in your industry by sharing your successes with clients who may be going through comparable situations to what other companies are experiencing.

  • Build trust with your target audience through transparent, honest storytelling that shows you understand their challenges and how to solve them. Customers can feel better about doing business with you when they know you have a track record of solving similar problems for other companies.

What types of information are needed to write a case study?

To write an effective case study that persuades your readers, you’ll want to include certain types of information:

  • About your company and your client. These introductory sections help set the stage for the rest of the case study. You can emphasize critical details about your business, information about your client's business, and provide helpful context for the reader.

  • Challenges your client was facing before working with you. This part of your case study allows you to speak to a common (or specific) problem your readers may resonate with.

  • Goals your client wanted to achieve by partnering with you. You can use this section to call out any particular short or long-term goals your client had in mind and why your business was the best choice to help them achieve those goals.

  • Solutions you implemented or actions you took to help them overcome these challenges — the more information provided in your solutions sections, the better. By methodically walking a reader through your process, they will be able to understand how you approached the project and if your business is a good fit for their needs.

  • Results or outcomes achieved because of your work. This is arguably the most important part of any case study. Your results section is where you get to show off the successes your client experienced because of working with you. You should include metrics, quotes, and other data to support your claims. Make sure to emphasize the direct impact your product, service, solution, or strategy made on your client's business, and you'll surely make an impact on the person reading your case study.

  • Client Testimonials to provide social proof. Including a testimonial or two from your client in your case study is always a good idea. This helps provide social proof that other businesses have benefited from working with you and can give your case study extra credibility. Make sure to have your client sign off on the case study testimonial because client confidentiality is an essential factor to keep in mind.

How do I maintain client confidentiality throughout a case study or client success story?

While plenty of clients are more than happy for you to advertise their name and brand publicly, some businesses require confidentiality and anonymity when you write a case study or client success story about them. There are certain types of information you’ll want to avoid sharing in your case study to protect your client's confidentiality. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

contact.png

Don’t include your client's contact information (e.g., email, phone number, website, etc.) without their explicit permission.

Be mindful of the language you use to describe your client's business. You don’t want to use language that could potentially identify or harm their business.

Don’t share any information that your client has not already made public. Avoid sharing any information that could be considered private or confidential.

If you include screenshots, images, or other visual media in your case study, blur out any information that could identify your client.

If you follow these guidelines, you should be able to write a case study or client success story that protects your client's confidentiality while still providing valuable information for your readers.

How much does a case study or client success story cost?

Every case study requires a different amount of work, depending on the length and complexity of the project. As a result, the cost of a case study can vary significantly from one project to the next. With that said, we base our pricing on a handful of primary factors:

  • The total number of words in the final case study or client success story. Typically, case studies are most impactful with a starting word count of 500 words, but the length of your company's project may need to be shorter or longer, depending on what you're going for.

  • Amount of research needed. Most case studies should follow the format we outlined above. Still, if your project is particularly lengthy or if you need help with the research process, we may need to allocate additional time and resources.

  • How many revisions are required. The more detailed and precise you are with the type of information you want to be emphasized throughout the case study or client success story, the fewer revisions will be needed.

  • The complexity of the project. While we take every client project seriously and deliver top-notch quality every time, some projects are more complex or straightforward than others. If your project is more complicated, we may need to set aside additional time and resources in order to guarantee that everything meets your exact requirements.

  • Need for additional design or media elements. This is one of the most significant variables in price, as some clients prefer to have just a word document. In contrast, others want an interactive PDF with images, videos, and graphs incorporated throughout. We create branded and designed case studies that tell your story in the most visually appealing way possible.

  • Turnaround time. Our standard turnaround time for case studies is two weeks, but we understand if you need your project completed more quickly. We always try to accommodate our clients' schedules as much as possible, so if you need your project turned around in a shorter timeframe, we will do our best to make it happen. Just ask!
